Vitamin B12 is required for the development, myelination, and function of the central nervous system; healthy red blood cell formation; and DNA synthesis. Found in eggs, dairy, meat, poultry, fish, and fortified cereals, it can also be taken as a supplement. Deficiency can lead to various health issues, including hematologic, neurologic, and psychiatric disorders, and may increase cardiovascular risk.
